- Annual subscriptions were set at the same level as last year (i.e. £30 for adults; £10 for juniors). The club will register all members with the Northern Membership Scheme (NMS).

Post meeting note (31/7/11): Jim Ward has kindly agreed to act as Secretary for this year.
The 18th Atherton Rapidplay was held at St Richard's Jubilee Hall on Sunday 20th March 2011, with players organised into three sections - Major (U200), Inter (U160) and Minor (U120). Mick Connor and Matthew Fanning fought hard all day in the very competitive Inter section, both finishing on 4 points from their six games and sharing the George Burton trophy for the best performance by an Atherton player. Well done to both!
A good day's chess was enjoyed by over 50 players and the full list of prize winners can be found on our Rapidplay page. A special thank you to the Woodcock family who did a brilliant job with the catering.
This year's Leyland Rapidplay was held on Sunday 27th February 2011 at The Ley Inn, Clayton-le-Woods. Atherton was well represented with Simon Woodcock acting as arbiter and Graham Ellis, Steve Fanning and Matthew Fanning all competing in the Major section for players graded below 170.
In the end it proved to be a good day for the Fannings, with Steve winning the section by a clear point and Matthew battling his way to a share of the U155 grading prize. This was the first time that father and son had been drawn to face each other in any serious competition and to increase the pressure, the family feud took place on top board in the last round. In the end experience prevailed but don't be surprised if Matthew extracts his revenge over the chess board very soon!
